📋 How to Figure Out If Your Conditions Are "Static" (Permanent / No Re-Exams)

A "Static Disability" is a service-connected condition that the VA considers permanent and unlikely to improve over your lifetime. When a disability is designated as static, the VA will never schedule Routine Future Examinations (RFE) to propose a reduction.

1. Check Your VA Rating Code Sheet (C-File)

The Rating Code Sheet is located at the very back of your official VA Rating Decision (in your C-File). Look at the table under "Disabilities":

• Routine Future Exam: None / No ➔ 100% Static
• Future Exam Date: [Month/Year] ➔ Not static (re-exam scheduled)
2. Download Benefit Summary Letter (VA.gov)

Log into VA.gov ➔ Records ➔ Get Your VA Benefit Letters ➔ Benefit Summary Letter:

• Look for: "You are considered to be totally and permanently disabled solely due to service-connected disabilities: YES".
• If YES (P&T), all conditions are automatically Static.
3. Call VA 1-800-827-1000 or Ask a VSO

Accredited VSOs and VA call agents have direct access to your live VBMS Electronic Claims Folder:

• Ask: "Can you check my VBMS rating code sheet and read off which conditions are marked Static?"
• They can confirm static status for each diagnostic code in real time.
4. Automatic 55-Year-Old Rule (38 CFR § 3.327a)

By federal regulation, once you turn 55 years old, the VA is legally prohibited from scheduling routine future re-examinations:

• All conditions are effectively locked in and shielded from routine re-evaluations for life.
